"A Journey to Heal"
Speak out loudly instead of hushed whispers...Someone will hear you
Toronto, Ontario (September 16, 2014) -
BIPOLARIZED RETHINKING MENTAL ILLNESS is a raw and gripping documentary that stars Producer Ross McKenzie, Directed by Rita Kotzia and Executive Produced by Gordon Henderson. BIPOLARIZED is Producer Ross McKenzie’s journey to heal, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and told that he would have to take lithium for the rest of his life. Living in a drug-induced haze was unacceptable to Ross and his journey to find peace began. Ross decided to resolve his symptoms outside conventional medicine, first, by delving into the root cause of the mental breakdown that brought his diagnosis. BIPOLARIZED uses Ross’ personal journey to take a look at the bigger and and potentially dangerous picture of labeling people with mental illnesses and the flow of medication that follows. This film weaves together a series of interviews with activists, psychiatrists and psychiatric survivors who have challenged convention. Recounting some of the alternative therapies used to maintain mental, emotional and physical health, by those who have walked in the shadows tells a story of choices and hope. BIPOLARIZED is not meant to provoke, but to question. Question the diagnosis, and just as important, question the prescribed course of treatment. The director asked those questions, Ross faced his demons and came out the other side, finally getting to that seemingly elusive state that gives you the chance to heal and thrive.
BIPOLARIZED is directed by Rita Kotzia, produced by Ross Mckenzie, Noelle Kim Chalifoux and Mark Peachey and edited by Bruce Lapointe.
