When the Eagles hosted the Green Bay Packers in a playoff game on Sunday night in Philadelphia, wide receiver A.J. Brown did something perhaps even more interesting. He took a seat and started reading. Cameras saw Brown examining a well-worn paperback on a bench by the sidelines as the Eagles dominated their 22-10 triumph. An announcer on the Fox Sports broadcast laughed. He remarked, "I haven't seen a lot of people read books (during a game)."
The book is called “Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible Life.” It was written by Jim Murphy, a former professional baseball player and self-described “performance coach” who helps athletes build mental toughness. Brown is one of the Eagles' best players. Out of the three balls thrown at him on Sunday, he only caught one for ten yards. But when he spoke to reporters after the game, he appeared positive. It could have been his first time reading on camera. He clarified, though, that he had previously read the book while playing a game.
