It was during the last show ever performed by The Leaders of the New School that Veseys’ life changed. Experiencing the energy that emanated from the stage, the young Detroit born resident soon found his life’s calling.
“It was seeing that show that made me realize that is what I wanted,” recalled Vesey. “I just had to make it happen for me, so I began practicing and exploring more of the art of emceeing by being a fixture in anything and everything hip hop related in Detroit.”
With his aspiration set, Vesey has been professionally making records since 1997, building not just a name for him, but a reputation as a sincere and down-to-earth Boom Bap influenced emcee creating beats and rhythms that stray from the conventional cookie cutter sound that can be heard on the radio today.
During his early years, Vstylez was first signed to the independent recording studio D Boy Records, where he later helped form the group Anomaly, which quickly received local and mixshow airplay on the leading urban stations.
However, with bigger aspirations, Vstylez soon left the D Boy Records to form his own label, Rebel Soul Movement (RSM Recordings). With a new purpose and direction, Vstylez began recording his debut album At Oddz till I’m Even, which saw him work with such legendary producers as MoSS, J Dilla, Khrysis, Bumpy Knuckles, Astronote, Big Gov, Apollo Brown, Lazy Genuis, Chanes, Beat Renegades and DJ Houseshoes.
With determination, passion and over 17 years of experience, Vstylez has seen his sound find not just local success in the United States where he’s become a staple on the cities #1 Hip Hop show Spark After Dark on 107.5, but he’s also found an international following in Japan, Italy and Germany.
“Live one day at a time,” says Vstylez when reflecting upon his success. “Never let a person tell you what you can or cannot do. Anything can be achieved if you believe in yourself because when you follow your heart, life is nothing but a book, so go write your story.”
Moving forward, Vstylez has reinvented himself, bringing authentic Hip Hop back to the forefront and raising the bar to the emcee craftsmanship. Having opened for such notable artists as Nas, R Kelly, Eve, Ludacris, Juvenile, Rakim, Obie Trice, Eightball throughout his career, and 2013 providing two songs for the 2013 soundtrack and game Anarchy Reigns produced by Platinum Games, Vstylez has managed to find continuing success in his work. As of 2017 he will be releasing a new album called “ Thornton Melon” with features from MOP, Skyzoo,Bumpy Knuckles with production from Nottz, Big Gov, MoSS and Bumpy Knuckles.
