​Jermaine Dupri Mauldin (born September 23, 1972, in Asheville, North Carolina; raised in Atlanta, Georgia) is a Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter, rapper, and music executive. A pivotal figure in shaping the Atlanta sound, Dupri is best known as the founder of So So Def Recordings, through which he discovered and launched acts like Kriss Kross, Da Brat, Xscape, Bow Wow, and Jagged Edge.
As a producer, Dupri has created chart-topping hits across hip-hop, R&B, and pop, working with Mariah Carey (“We Belong Together”), Usher (“Confessions”), Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, and many others. His ability to blend Southern hip-hop with mainstream appeal cemented Atlanta’s place as a powerhouse in the music industry.
Beyond producing, Dupri is also a rapper in his own right, known for albums like Life in 1472 and Instructions. In 2018, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, becoming only the second hip-hop artist to receive that honor (after Jay-Z).
