On August 31, 1984 John Darden known by many as Wizo Cracc was born in Harlem, New York. Wizo was raised in Martin Luther King Jr. Towers, along with his two brothers by his Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Growing up, life was no crystal stair for Wizo and his siblings being the product of two biological parents whom were addicted to drugs. However, in 1992 Wizo’s mother began to make positive strides and in result she was able to gain custody of her children; and they all moved to Jersey City, New Jersey together.
At, nine years old with the intent of spending a joyous day with his father it was quite the contrary. John, witnessed the suicide of his father, which changed his life drastically. Wizo, channeled his despair into sports, basketball specifically. He began playing basketball for the local boys clubs and his junior high school with the pursuit of ultimately making it to the NBA. His love for basketball is coupled with his huge interest in Music. He was influenced by the Great- Notorious B.I.G, Tupac, Nas, Kriss Kross and Da Brat to begin writing rhymes.
After living in New Jersey for six years, in the summer of 1998 WIZO and his family moved back to New York. At the age of fourteen WIZO began a life of destruction. He joined a gang called the Crips and began smoking and selling drugs. This violent lifestyle soon caught up to him, he was arrested and served jail time. While incarcerated WIZO realized he had a talent that was not being properly utilized. The last two years of years of his sentence he wrote rhymes as much as possible and decided to take his music career seriously.
Upon his release in 2007, Wizo-Cracc has been diligently attending College, working full time and actively writing and recording music. Wizo, is determined to let his story and lyrical content be recognized both locally and state wide. He believes that not only will his savvy metaphors connect him to his potential fans but his story. A story which is similar to many youth--yet unfamiliar to most.
