About
Back Block Music Group Inc. is an entity dedicated to bringing soul back to rap, hip hop, and R&B. With Influences from Stack Bundles, The Lox & Fabolous, BBMG boasts the diversity of Wu-Tang, cool grit of G-Unit, and the boldness of Public Enemy. We are a safe haven for artists who continue to love and respect the art because for us, “Creativity Counts”. BBMG members are all N.Y.C. local talent, but experiences expand from Cortland, NY, all the way to Atlanta, GA, and California.
As a collective we want to bring the unity/love pact of hip-hop back. We want to show them that you don’t have to live a gangster lifestyle to be successful. We create music that matches the social climate because our streets need a voice that brings rap back to telling our story and having fun, our kids don’t need another “posturing” rapper giving them life advice… we just make that real good, feel good music!
We see BBMG music getting played anywhere or anytime music is appropriate (and even when it’s not). While still a young organization we have succeeded in compiling a catalog with selections for clubs, television shows, social events & web space. We believe in our music and know it’s bringing the total package in providing good music to listen to with positive messages to help others through the struggle.
Story
What started with two rap artists and a manager became a talent pool of five rappers, four singers, three music engineers, clothing designers, and marketing entrepreneurs. Born & raised on a myriad of backblocks scattered on the east coast, BBMG came into fruition on “First Block” in Laurelton, Queens. Rappers Tah Lo$o & Prince Bricks are featured as the premier rappers, Amadeus served as the lead singer and arrangement technician, rappers Swag $$$ Rich, O-Dogg, and MC Poem are developing talents leading the new wave, and Al “Hollywood” Bundy as our corporate liaison.
Born of a need to express issues relating to our lives and surroundings we do not feel at a disadvantage to the industry; instead we feel we can connect with the listener on a deeper level by discussing issues from an ever-changing culture. We have developed our individual ways to attack beats, but the essential group cohesion comes from the long history the members of this group have with each other and the desire to prove ourselves to the discerning public.
While production was underway and new partnerships flourished with the induction of “Fresh Fire Ministries”, BBMG became incorporated to protect our music and create a hub where up-and-coming artists can springboard into their careers. While as a group we were picking up momentum nourishing a relationship with MakeItRain.TV, we all suffered a terrible loss on Christmas Eve 2012 with the passing of our lead singer and best friend Dayquan “Amadeus” Smythe.
We are grateful for the time we had with our brother making this music and his passing on helps to fuel our hunger to be successful promoting this music from a crucial time of our lives. We continue to speak to the youth, people going through the struggle grinding beyond the recession and doing whatever it takes to get out. We strive to answer the call of those counting on us to succeed including our families, our block, Amadeus’ family, and our city.
